Heterotic Moduli Stabilization with Fractional Chern-Simons Invariants

چکیده
We show that fractional flux from Wilson lines can stabilize the moduli of heterotic string compactifications on Calabi-Yau threefolds. We observe that the Wilson lines used in GUT symmetry breaking naturally induce a fractional flux. When combined with a hidden-sector gaugino condensate, this generates a potential for the complex structure moduli, Kähler moduli, and dilaton. This potential has a supersymmetric AdS minimum at moderately weak coupling and large volume. Notably, the necessary ingredients for this construction are often present in realistic models. We explore the type IIA dual phenomenon, which involves Wilson lines in D6-branes wrapping a three-cycle in a CalabiYau, and comment on the nature of the fractional instantons which change the ChernSimons invariant.

The Chern-Simons invariants for the double of a compression body
Given a 3-manifold that can be written as the double of a compression body, we compute the Chern-Simons critical values, and show that the moduli space of flat connections is connected when there are no reducibles.
متن کاملHausdorff dimension , fractional spin particles and Chern - Simons effective potential
We obtain for any spin, s, the Hausdorff dimension, hi, for fractional spin particles and we discuss the connection between this number, hi, and the Chern-Simons potential. We also define the topological invariants, Ws, in terms of the statistics of these particles. PACS numbers: 11.90+t
متن کاملExtended higher cup-product Chern-Simons theories
It is well known that the proper action functional of (4k+ 3)-dimensional U(1)-Chern-Simons theory including the instanton sectors is given on gauge equivalence classes of fields by the fiber integration of the cup product square of classes in degree-(2k + 2) differential cohomology. We first refine this statement from gauge equivalence classes to the full higher smooth moduli stack of fields, ...

This correction term can alternatively be viewed as a sum of diierences between the Maslov index and a nonintegral term 88 or as a sum of U1 rho invariants 277. In 55, the objects of stu...
متن کاملCohomological Invariants of a Variation of Flat Connections
In this paper, we apply the theory of Chern-Cheeger-Simons to construct canonical invariants associated to an r-simplex whose points parametrize flat connections on a smooth manifold X. These invariants lie in degrees (2p − r − 1)-cohomology with C/Z-coefficients, for p > r ≥ 1. This corresponds to a homomorphism on the higher homology groups of the moduli space of flat connections, and taking ...
